The champions of England will compete against Manchester United in the race to sign centre-back
Sokratis Papastathopoulos, though the Red Devils are said to be leading the race to bring him in at
present. The Premier League giants are in the hunt to sign a new defensive star and the 29-year- old
Borussia Dortmund man is on their radar at present. The player has been wanted by Arsenal for
quite some time as well, though a deal has not gone through thus far.
The Gunners currently have former Dortmund talent spotter Sven Mislentat, who was responsible
for the club’s record transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the winter transfer window.
However, despite that advantage it seems now that the Manchester based side are leading that race
and will be the ones to actually sign him, if a deal does go through.
Both the London based clubs will want to try their luck and bring him in due to their interest, as they
look to fortify their squad.
Despite that, Jose Mourinho will also want to bring in this star to add reinforcements to his back-
line, as his team have been strong up front and facing problems in defence.
Though, that is the case, both Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte also want are in need of top
quality central defenders also.
They managerial duo will try their best to sign their target, though it Champions League football can
have an impact on the player’s decision, as to which club he eventually decides to sign for.
