The FA Cup third round will kick off on Friday 5th January next year which will not feature Manchester United’s game against Derby County.
This is due to the Merseyside derby which clashed with it. The two Premier League giants will lock horns against each other which is predicted to be a mesmerising spectacle.
Manchester United are the huge favourites against Championship side,Derby County. The Red Devils defeated Derby in the fourth round of the FA Cup two seasons before in which they managed to win the Cup at the end of the season. If we recall Derby’s past, they have achieved tremendous amount of success especially under Brian Clough.
The Rams can be dangerous and Jose Mourinho’s men should be aware of that. This is the first time in 12 years that Manchester United’s FA Cup game will not be televised as it happened before in January 2005, when Manchester United and Exeter City could not break the stalemate.
However, nothing can be done as the Merseyside derby has got the upper hand and Manchester United should have no problems regarding it. There is supposed to be a monetary loss for the sides as they will not receive the broadcast fees and this might have a stronger impact on the visitors who are expected to be knocked out in the tie.
This is going to be a huge disrespect shown to the Red Devils as they are arguably the most prestigious club of England and they also have the largest fanbase in the planet which makes it more difficult for the FA as they have displeased most of the football fans of the world. However, Derby County might not be a big opponent for them but it is football and anything can happen in this game. Moreover, this is a cup tie where many unexpected upsets take place. Therefore not televising this game may have a hazardous effect in the future as the Manchester United fans are raising voice against this decision. Although, nothing can be done as it is already decided and we have to be updated on our cell phones to receive match scoreline. This is an end of a pretty big televised match run of Manchester United.
Brighton will be playing Crystal Palace at home on the following Monday which will be a history in the making in English football as video assistant referees will be seen for the first time in a competitive match in England. Success of video assistant referees have been seen in German Bundesliga before and it is expected that its introduction in English football will be well taken nicely and receive good reviews. Brighton vs Crystal Palace tie in the Premier League was not a peaceful occasion as the visitors were accused of bursting smoke bombs in the Amex Stadium.
Chelsea’s and Arsenal’s trip to Norwich and Nottingham respectively are other ties in the round.
