Full Player Ratings
David De Gea 6.5
The Spaniard had a decent match in between the sticks as he got to the ground to save (Danny) Drinkwater’s strike in the second half. A superb performance from the wantaway Spanish goalkeeper.
Antonio Valencia 6.5
The Manchester United veteran was at it (usually best) again in the match. He was solid in defence and made a couple of forward runs in the game. He offered United a positive outlet up front.
Chris Smalling 6.5
The English center half did some tidy defensive job in the central defence and offered set-pieces threat for United with his aerial (height) strength in the opposing end of the pitch.
Victor Nilsson Lindelof 6.0
The center half formed a superb defensive partnership with (Chris) Smalling in the heart of United’s defence. He made a couple of interceptions and timely clearance in the tie.
Ashley Young 6.0
Young was decent in the left back position though he struggled in the first half of the game in the wake of Willian’s goal. He grew into the match later on as he offered his United side pace and set-pieces threat going forward during the course of the game.
Nemanja Matic 6.0
The Serbian showed strength and help up play well in the middle but lacked the killer pass that would have put through United’s forward lines in transition down the Chelsea area.
Scott McTominay 6.5
The young lad worked tirelessly in United’s midfield alongside Nemanja Matic. He broke up Chelsea’s play in the middle and showed youthfulness in bumping forwards with the ball (in possession).
Paul Pogba 7.0
The Frenchman’s class was evident once again in the game. He showed flair and vision in releasing his teammates in transition. He showed good vision to pick out his teammate with a looping pass over the Chelsea defence in the box.
Anthony Martial 6.5
The French star started slowly in the game but offered United a cutting edge from the left flank. He showed his quality and awareness in connecting well with Sanchez to set up (Romelu) Lukaku’s goal in the Chelsea penalty area.
Romelu Lukaku-Man of the match (MOTM) – 7.5
The Belgian striker was simply unplayable for Chelsea. Physical and technically he was a handful for Chelsea’s defence as he got a goal and a (superb) assist in the game. He showed great vision and accuracy to pick out Jesse Lingard in the Chelsea box coupled with good ball control in the build-up to the first goal.
Alexis Sanchez 6.5
The Chilean forward could not match in the first 45 minute but he grew into the match to assert his influences in the clash. He combined well with Martial to set up Lukaku’s goal. He squared an intelligent (ball) pass to Lukaku in the second half that almost resulted in a goal.
Jesse Lingard 6.0
The English forward was brought on to get the job gone and he did that in scoring the winning goal of the game. Lingard’s header was all United needed to condemn Chelsea to 2-1 home win.
Eric Baily 4.0
The Ivorian center back was brought on to shore things up at the heart of the defence and he did just that to help his (United) side seal an important (vital) home win against Chelsea.
