- League Table after GameWeek 15
Our main focus was on the Arsenal vs Manchester United game where the visitors won the game 3-1 after a great counterattacking display.
Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United
Antonio Valencia scored the opener in 4 minutes while Jesse Lingard doubled it at the 11th minute. After conceding two early goals Arsenal got back the control of the game but thanks to David De Gea’s heroics only one out of the 15 shots on target went past him and that was Alexandre Lacazette’s close range finish just 4 minutes after the half time. Conceding the goal, Man United became stable and started counterattacking more often which eventually led to a goal scored by Lingard in the 63rd minute which proved to be the winner. A late red card for Paul Pogba meant that he will suspended for the Manchester derby next weekend.
Chelsea 3-1 Newcastle United
The Blues are right after the Mancunian clubs and no one should be surprised if they can defend the title at the end of the season. Quality wise and performance wise Chelsea always had the edge over their counterparts. From out of the blue,Dwight Gayle scored the opener for the Magpies. It was a gift for Chelsea as they managed to earn two penalties both converted by Eden Hazard. Yet again,Alvaro Morata proved his worth by doing a striker’s task after managing to head Victor Mosses’s cross past Rob Elliott in the 33rd minute.
Brighton and Hove Albion 1-5 Liverpool
A nightmare for the seagulls as they were thrashed by Liverpool by four goals. This was their first home defeat this season and what a defeat it was! Emre Can scored the opener in the 30th minute and as they say, “You are always vulnerable when you score or concede” proved true as the Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino scored within 80 seconds.
After the half time Firmino scored again which gave them a three goal cushion. The vulenerability voodoo worked again as they gave away a penalty which was nicely converted by Glenn Murray in the 51st minute. The key man of the Reds, Philippe Coutinho had assisted in two goals and it was time for him to score one and in what a wonderful way he did it. In the 87th minute Liverpool earned a freekick which was awarded to him. His targeted the bottom corner and as soon as the wall jumped, the ball went beneath it and what a beautiful goal it was. It was a sprinkle of salt on the wound as Lewis Dunk scored an own goal two minutes later. This Premier League Matchweek will be remembered by all the Seagull fans as a nightmare.
Everton 2-0 Huddersfield Town
This was Sam Allardyce’s first game as Everton manager and it could not have started better. The Terriers registered a 2-0 victory over a hardworking Huddersfield side. It was a stalemate till the half time but after that two goals from Gylfi Siggurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave them the three points. This Premier League MatchWeek was important for the Toffees as it was very important for them to win.
Leicester City 1-0 Burnley
The scoreline might not reflect how great the game was. It was an end to end game where there were 30 shots on target. However, the game’s fate was decided by the early goal scored by Demarai Gray after Nick Pope made a mistake in eliminating the threat created by Riyad Mahrez in the penalty box.
Stoke City 2-1 Swansea
Swansea City looked more desparate to get some points due to their league position. The early momentum created by the visitors got them the first goal as Wilfried Bony scored a tap in in the third minute. The home side settled in the match and came back from behind after the two goals from Xherdan Shaqiri( in the 36th minute) and Mame Biram Diouf (in the 40th minute). Diouf’s goal proved to be the winner . This was another bad result for Paul Clement’s side as they are now in the bottom of the league. In this Premier League MatchWeek , Stoke City got to the 13th place which makes it a great result for them.
Watford 1-1 Spurs
Watford has surprised many with their great performances against big sides. However, they were alarmed after they conceded four against the Red Devils in midweek. Spurs were on a bad run lately and the run certainly continues as they only managed to get a point from the Vicarage Road. Watford scored the opener from a corner which was finely headed by Christian Kabasele in the 13th minute. Son equalised in the 25th minute. The game was all good until the 52nd minute when Davinson Sanchez was sent off for a raised arm against Richarlison. However, Watford could not take the advantage and the game ended in a stalemate. In this Premier League Matchweek , Watford reacted with a bang.
West Bromwich Albion 0-0 Crystal Palace
West Bromwich Albion looked to be the better side but “if you don;t score, you don’t win”. That was the case when the home side had 20 shots on target but Speroni was on top form on the day. Speroni’s great fingertip save against Rondon’s shot was the best moment of the match. Chances were there for the Eagles as Christian Benteke almost scored but some wonderful goalkeeping from Ben Foster made it impossible for him to score.
Bournemouth 1-1 Southampton
The south coast derby ended in a draw as both the side share the spoils. It was an entertaining game where both the sides got the chances. The talented Scot,Ryan Fraser gave the home side a lead which was equalised by Charlie Austin in the 61th minute. Things will be harder for the Saints next week as they welcome Arsenal at home.
Manchester City 2-1 West Ham United
The league leaders have been slow starters almost in every game this season and this game was no exception. The Citizens were trailing in the half time as West Ham scored the first goal thanks to Angelo Ogbonna’s header. City came in with an extra energy in the second half as they came from behind to win the game 2-1(Goals scored by Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva).
