Second was the key, they felt, as the Liverpool fans cheered Jurgen Klopp on for yet another season. The former Borussia Dortmund manager had won the league with the Bundesliga outfit, in his second year in charge and this was his second proper(full) campaign with the Reds. So high were the expectations of the Kop faithful, that the disappointment to follow was no less.Yes, the Merseyside outfit was impressive on occasions when it mattered the post and performed best against the big teams. However, their failure to perform against the rather “smaller ones”, hurt their title ambitions the most.
Yet another season of misery and no silverware haunted the players, manager and the fans. Signings were not of the highest order and injuries were a problem once again.
If a couple of cup finals in the campaign prior to that, it seemed that a title was on the cards. Despite that, no such “miracle” was to be seen.
The only positive from the last term would be that, the Reds are back in the Champions League, after securing a top four finish in the Premier League. Hopefully, more titles are on the way. Let’s wait and watch!!
