The French giant welcomes Spanish side Real Madrid at home for the return leg of the Champions League tie as the first leg ended 3-1 in the favour of the Spanish giants (Real Madrid).
PSG would be aiming to turn the tie around in front of their home fans but this looks unlikely as the Galacticos had won a couple of matches in recent weeks.
Both sides were victors at the weekend as they overcome modest side Troyes (for PSG) and Getafe (for Real Madrid).
Goals from Argentina forward Angel Di-Maria and Christopher Nkunku were all PSG needed to brush aside Troyes at home while a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and an effort from Gareth Bale set the tone for a 3-1 home win for Madrid over Getafe.
With the clash looming in Paris coupled with massive expectation regarding the big match, we evaluate (3) three things PSG must do to salvage their Champions League campaign this season against Real Madrid.
Get an Early Goal
The home side is 3-1 down on aggregate and needs 2-0 win to overturn the tie on away goal rule. This looks to be a daunting task for PSG but this is very much achievable if they can get their act right from the onset. PSG must get an early goal to set the momentum right in the course of the game.
This will put some pressure on Real Madrid to play safe with some level of caution going forward especially with the likes of Marcelo and Daniel Carvajal looking to make overlapping runs into the PSG area.
This will urge the home fans to cheer in favour of PSG as there will be some believe for a turnaround on the field of play.
This will be evident if they take a goal lead against the Spanish giants.
Seize midfield Initiative
The French giants must seize control of the play in the course of the match if they are to scale through to the Champions League quarter-final stage.
With the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in midfield, Madrid can be dangerous in transition especially in releasing Pacey forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the final third as both star players got on the scoresheet against Getafe at the weekend.
PSG must try to control the rhythm of the game as this will curtail the attacking pressure down their defensive area.
They need a high level of correlation in midfield if they are to standout against Real Madrid.
Avoid Set Places (Free-Kick)
This is very needful for PSG to do in the course of this match as Real Madrid can duly capitalize on set-pieces situation as seen many times this season.
With the likes of Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Rafael Varane in the Real Madrid mix, they (the visitors) are certainly going to be dangerous on set-up plays especially from corner-kicks.
This cannot be overemphasized as Toni Kroos is very good at taking (getting) set pieces into the box.
Bale and Ronaldo are very good from free-kick and there is a need for PSG to avoid unnecessary tackles in and around the box to avoid imminent dangers as the aforementioned players are capable of dispatching free-kick from long-range distance in the course of the game.
